The Charlie Circle Adipur, named after the legendary comedy actor Sir Charles Chaplin, was founded on 16th April 1973 by Dr. Ashok S. Aswani, an Ayurvedic practitioner at Adipur in the district of Kutch in Gujarat, India. Dr. Aswani had been a student at the Film Institute of India at Pune during 1969 – 70, where he imbibed great interest in Mime, then taught by Ms. Asha Chandra, Asrani and Irshad Panchayatan . He had plenty of occasions to watch and witness Charlie Chaplin’s movies, there which instilled in him a great desire to practice the art of Mime. Dr. Aswani dedicated himself to pursuing this technique of mime, with Charlie Chaplin as his guru and mentor. He was fondly called “Charlie” by his friends Raza Murad & others, as early as during his tenure at the FTI,Pune.

The Charlie Circle – Adipur takes profound pleasure in launching its official website, marking the completion of 30 years of its “memorable” existence. Here, it will not be out of place to especially thank & congratulate Mr. Harish Thacker – Ajanta Arts, Adipur, who invigorated the idea of a launching a website to commemorate the occasion.
